2005 Quinault l’Enclos – On Sale for just $37.99 RP94, WS92, ST93

2005 Quinault l’Enclos 750ml – $37.99 (reg. price $48.99)

We just received a container from Bordeaux, including a few extra cases of the highly acclaimed 2005 Quinault l’Enclos. This wine is easily the highest rated 2005 Bordeaux under $45 and today we’ll sell the last of what we have for just $37.99 per bottle. What a terrific buy for a wine that was rated 93 points by Tanzer, 94 points by Parker and 92 points by the Spectator. Most retailers around the country sell this for $50-65+.

Two years ago we had dinner with the owner and wine maker, Dr. Alain Raynaud, who Robert Parker says is “one of Bordeaux’s most articulate spokespersons” and “quickly emerging as one of St Emilion’s superstars.” Although he consults for several other esteemed estates, it is his own wine that continues to shine. Made from 65 year old vines planted in gravelly soil, the blend is 70% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Malbec.

We have had the privilege of tasting the ‘05 Quinault on multiple occasions from both barrel and bottle, and each time it continues to impress with nice concentration, striking intensity and delightful texture. Black fruits, mocha, and minerals dominate the aroma with a full body of black cherries, blueberries, and spice ending with a lingering finish.

We highly recommend the ‘05 Quinault l’Enclos as one of the great values of the vintage that will continue to provide you loads of pleasure over the next 15-20 years. Enjoy!

Wine Advocate, Apr 2008, 94 points: “The well-known winemaking consultant, Dr. Alain Raynaud, is the proprietor of this estate. The 2005 Quinault l’Enclos is a pure, elegant, stylish wine from a blend of 70% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and an unusual 6% Malbec. This highly-focused wine exhibits a deep ruby/purple hue in addition to a beautiful bouquet of black raspberries, blueberries, camphor, spring flowers, and spice box. With superb concentration, a hint of minerals, and a lovely textured mouthfeel, it should be approachable in 5-6 years, and age easily for two decades or more.”
Stephen Tanzer, May 2008, 93 points: “($55-$73) Medium ruby-red. Sexy aromas of cherry, minerals, iron and smoked meat. Juicy and sappy for the year, with lovely energy to the concentrated flavors of cherry, minerals, smoke, flowers and earth. Very sophisticated, shapely wine with a long, ripely tannic finish throwing off notes of smoke, minerals and iron.”
Wine Spectator, June 2008, 92 points: “Beautiful chocolate and blackberry aromas and flavors follow through to a full body, with soft, round tannins and a very long finish. Best after 2011. –JS”
