Beautifully Elegant Pinot Noir

2006 Eyrie Pinot Noir 750ml – $27.99 (reg. price $34.99)

These days when you just need to take your mind off of things, you shouldn’t have a wine that’s hard to drink. The 2006 Eyrie Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir is really, really delightful and the best part is you don’t need to think about it – you just drink and enjoy.

The Eyrie Pinot is so elegant, fresh, and supple-textured, that you’ll be lost in its enjoyment. The wine is light colored and full of vibrant and pure but delicate fruit. It has an alluring elegance and grace that is reminiscent of an exquisite Burgundy.

Eyrie Vineyards, founded by David Lett in 1966, is located in the Red Hills of Dundee in Willamette Valley, Oregon. Lett was the first person to plant Pinot Noir in this area and is also credited with planting the first Pinot Gris in the United States. For 40 years David honed his winemaking skills and many of his first wines are drinking great today. Since his passing in 2008, the Estate is now in the hands of his son, Jason Lett.

Eyrie’s style is that of minimalist intervention – that means no insecticides, herbicides, or irrigation in the vineyards. The wines receive no fining or filtration and the gentle treatment creates wines of finesse, subtlety, and depth of character that are very approachable when young, and legendary for their age-ability.

After spending almost two years in neutral French oak, the Eyrie Pinot Noir is a true and honest expression of the varietal and pairs exceptionally well with food. Enjoy!

Wine Advocate, Oct 2008, 92 points: “The 2006 Pinot Noir Estate was aged entirely in seasoned oak. It is light ruby-colored with a lovely bouquet of cherry and wild strawberry. This leads to a velvety textured, elegant wine with savory red fruits, spice, excellent concentration and a fruit-filled finish. The wine’s impeccable balance may allow for further development in the bottle but it can be enjoyed now. Achieving this level of elegance in a vintage like 2006 is a singular accomplishment.”
